Little Greene is an independent, British paint manufacturer, committed to the socially and environmentally responsible production of high quality paints and wallpapers.With records dating back to the year 1773, the Little Greene Dye Works of Collyhurst Wood, on the outskirts of Manchester is one of England's most ancient industrial sites for the making of paints and dye solutions.

Little Greene wallpapers are a beautiful complement to the company's paint palette. Each collection resurrects designs found in forgotten archives, employing specialist printing methods on the finest grade papers to give the wallpapers their sophisticated textures, elegant appearance, durability and longevity.

Absolute Matt Emulsion

Little Greene's most popular paint, Absolute Matt Emulsion is the classic finish for interior walls and ceilings. It's a water-based, environmentally friendly paint and dries to an incredibly flat finish that exudes character.

Intelligent Matt Emulsion is Little Greene's ground-breaking paint - it's matt, environmentally-friendly and completely washable. This makes it suitable for all areas of your home including kitchens, bathrooms, children's rooms and high-traffic hallways.

Limewash is a very traditional finish, used to decorate and protect porous stone and lime-rendered surfaces. Like Distemper, Limewash is a breathable finish making it suitable for old and damp-problematic walls.

Distemper (Interior)

A traditional breathable paint, commonly used in older buildings and loved because of its soft, powdery finish. Water-based and environmentally friendly, our Distemper is strengthened to be wipeable but is not recommended for areas of high traffic or condensation.

The preferred finish of one of our senior chemists, this exterior eggshell, opaque wood finish has excellent flow, giving a beautiful low sheen on woodwork and metalwork.

A compendium book of twentieth century wallpapers, specially selected from historic archives, including original documents at Manchester’s Whitworth Art Gallery and private collections; all of them researched, reworked and re-coloured by Little Greene.

More than ‘just plain stripes’, all ten designs in ‘Painted Papers’ have been reworked from historic patterns sourced from several archives, including those at English Heritage and Manchester’s Whitworth Art Gallery.

Little Greene has scoured the archives of both London and Paris to source its latest heritage wallpaper collection, the aptly named ‘Révolution Papers’. The title of this range refers not to the storming of the Bastille in 1789, but to the groundbreaking advances in the production and distribution of wallpapers in the ensuing industrial period.

London Wallpapers III

London Wallpapers III comprises seven designs in a total of 35 colourways, each based on an historic pattern from the archives of English Heritage. Dating from 1690 to 1898, the papers were originally manufactured in London to decorate smart city and country homes.

London Wallpapers II

London Wallpapers II is the second book of designs drawn from the archives of English Heritage. Based on documents ranging from small scraps to full drops of wallpaper, the designs have been redrawn and coloured to complement the 21st century interior.

London Wallpapers

Dating from 1760 to 1890, these traditional wallpapers were originally manufactured in London to decorate smart city and country homes and each design has a provenance tracing it back to the original house in which it was discovered.

Oriental Papers

Heavily influenced by traditional Japanese kimono design, this collection features dramatic blooms, delicate blossoms, bamboo and stylised landscapes of pines and water. These botanical and geometric motifs are complemented by a whimsical fan design, which pays homage to the collection’s origins.

50s Line Papers

This collection of papers is another chapter in Little Greene’s ongoing restoration of the best, yet often forgotten, wallpaper designs of the past. These eight patterns are drawn from original 1950s designs found in the extensive wallpaper archive at Manchester's Whitworth Art Gallery.

Archive Trails

‘Archive Trails’ from Little Greene: an archive-inspired anthology of English and French trailing wallpaper motifs. Trailing florals have been the subject of decorative pattern since long before the mechanisation of wallpaper production and the ensuing fashion for repeating pattern.

ENVIRONMENT

Little Greene have always been totally committed to the ongoing well-being and protection of the world environment and in 2004 were one of the first UK paint manufacturers to achieve the European environmental standard BS EN ISO 14001. From big business decisions to the smallest everyday tasks, they continue to act positively and responsibly to minimize their ecological impact, without compromising their high quality standards.

Water based paints

All Little Greene waterbased paints carry the industry's lowest eco-rating, with VOC content now virtually zero. This means you don't need to worry about solvent contributions to the atmosphere or any respiratory issues, or the smell; they are virtually odourless.

Oil Based Paints

Oil based paints are traditionally favoured because of their renowned longevity and superb finish. Little Greene oil based paints have been reformulated using sustainable vegetable oils, without compromising on their unrivalled quality.

Wallpapers

The paper used in Little Greene wallpapers comes from FSC or PEFC certificated sustainable forests; so for every tree used another four are planted. The pigments used to print them are completely non-toxic and our excellent wallpaper paste contains no solvent.

Recycling

Little Greene paint tins are made using over 50% recycled steel and can be recycled again, and all our paperwork is printed on recycled or sustainably sourced paper. They are continually developing their packaging and warehousing procedures to increase the content of recycled and recyclable material and have achieved waste reduction of 57% in the last three years. 

Safe For Children

Little Greene offer the safest choices for decorating children's rooms and furniture. Their Absolute Matt Emulsion, Intelligent Matt Emulsion and Intelligent Eggshell paints have been tested to European Standard BS EN 71-3:1995, also known as 'Toy Paint Regulations' – these are proven safe from toxic metals.

All Little Greene paints and wallpapers are manufactured in the UK and they actively source from suppliers who can match their commitment to local industries.
